The Janome Sewist 780DC is a simple-to-use, fully computerized sewing machine that is packed with time-saving features. With 80 built-in stitches, a backlit LCD screen, and 3 one-step buttonholes, it covers a wide range of sewing applications without making the setup complicated. It also comes with a hard cover to protect the machine when it is stored.

Choosing a stitch is quick and clear. Direct stitch selection is available for 20 stitches, and the other 60 are pictured on the easy-access slide-out stitch charts. When you select a stitch, the LCD screen shows the stitch, the recommended presser foot, and the default stitch width and length, which you can change to suit your project.

This machine is built to save you steps. The automatic thread cutter trims the top and bobbin thread at the same time and pulls the top thread to the underside of the fabric. Add in the built-in needle threader, needle up/down button, auto bobbin winder, and easy-set bobbin system, and everyday sewing moves along smoothly. The start/stop button lets you sew without a foot control.

You also get plenty of control over your stitching. Stitch elongation on satin stitches lets you stretch the pattern up to 5 times the default stitch length, and the auto-lock stitch feature locks off stitches and patterns with the push of a button. With a 7mm maximum stitch width, a 5mm maximum stitch length, 6 levels of foot pressure, and 15 needle positions, you can fine-tune the machine for the fabric and technique you are working with.

Inside, a rigid die-cast aluminum frame keeps the machine stable at speeds of up to 820 stitches per minute, and the 7-piece feed dog helps feed fabric evenly to reduce slipping, puckering, and shifting. The free arm and drop feed add flexibility for sleeves, cuffs, and other small or tubular projects, while the patented needle plate markings give you needle drop position, angle marks, and sewing guides for precise results.

At 14.3 lbs (6.5 kg) with a short handle that folds neatly into the top of the machine, the Sewist 780DC is easy to move, store, and take along to classes. It is a practical choice for sewists who want dependable computerized features and straightforward controls in one machine.

Blind Hem Foot

  • Blind hemming can sometimes be a little bit tricky so the blind hem foot goes some way to helping improve this technique.
  • The foot has a metal guide in the center and three grooves on the underside. During blind hemming, the fold of the fabric fits snugly against the guide in the foot for accuracy while the groove underneath help to prevent unnecessary slipping.
  • The needle swings over the metal guide creating slack in the upper tension so that the pick of the stitch is almost invisible.
