Key Features

  • A.S.R. (Accurate Stitch Regulator): A Janome first, standard on the M17. Keeps stitch length consistent during free-motion work no matter how fast or slow you move, and includes four dedicated feet — closed toe, open-toe, clear view, and the Ruler Work foot — with adjustable sensor sensitivity as your skills grow.
  • AcuFeed™ Flex Plus System: This dual-feed system pulls fabric evenly from the top and bottom layers at once, keeping quilts, plaids, and multi-layer projects aligned. A dedicated motor engages the feed right from the touchscreen, and three interchangeable foot options cover everything from piecing to zipper installation.
  • Computerized One-Touch Needle Plate Conversion: Switch needle plates with a single tap — the machine releases and reseats the plate automatically using a magnetic system. No tools required. The M17 includes three plates: zigzag, straight stitch, and Professional Grade HP.
  • Ample Work Area: A seamless, all-metal flatbed gives you 13.5” to the right of the needle, with 5.5” of workspace height and 3.15” of clearance above the needle plate — plenty of room for large quilts and layered projects.
  • Extra-Large Seamless Flatbed: The heavy-duty, all-metal bed provides an uninterrupted surface that helps fabric glide smoothly, reducing drag and keeping stitch quality consistent on big projects.
  • Professional Grade Needleplate, HP & HP2 Feet: Narrow-gauge, industrial-style feet built for curves and precise top-stitching, sized perfectly for accurate 1/4” seams and clean starts on any fabric.
  • Thumb Wheel: An industry-first convenience feature positioned right beside the needle, letting you raise or lower it without reaching for the handwheel.
  • Dual LCD Touchscreens: A 5.3” x 8.5” screen handles editing and design work, while a second, industry-first screen keeps stitch settings, tension, and foot pressure within easy reach while you sew.
  • Optical Bobbin Monitoring System: Tracks your bobbin thread supply in real time and warns you before it runs low, so long seams and embroidery runs don't get interrupted at the worst moment.
  • Extra-Large Embroidery Area: The included RE46d hoop offers 11.3” x 18.2” of embroidery space — the largest Janome has offered — built from carbon-fiber-infused plastic that's ten times stronger than metal, with an easy-to-hoop lever system and hoop size detection.
  • Variable Zigzag with Knee Lift Control: Adjust stitch width on the fly by pressing the knee lift while sewing, opening up precise creative control for thread painting, free-motion quilting, and raw-edge appliqué.
  • Speed, Strength & Stability: A full metal frame and vibration-reducing design let the M17 sew smoothly and quietly at speeds up to 1,300 stitches per minute, with the SFS-i intelligent feed system keeping feed dogs out of the way until you're ready to sew.
  • Creative Capability & Everyday Efficiency: 850 built-in stitches, 9mm stitch width, 91 needle positions, 3 alphabets, and 13 sensor buttonholes support both detailed creative work and everyday production sewing.
  • Accessories & Included Support: The M17 comes with five embroidery hoops, multiple free-motion quilting feet, an automatic needle threader, an independent bobbin winding motor, and built-in storage compartments so your tools stay organized and within reach.

The Janome Continental M17 is Janome's next-generation combo machine, built to bring together the best of their sewing and embroidery lineup into one system. It's designed for sewists who want high-level quilting, precise garment construction, and serious embroidery capability without switching machines.

The full metal frame keeps the M17 stable at high speeds, holding stitch quality steady whether you're working with delicate fabric or thick, layered projects. The Accurate Stitch Regulator (A.S.R.) keeps free-motion stitch length consistent, while the AcuFeed Flex system keeps multiple fabric layers moving together evenly.

On the embroidery side, the M17 includes over 1,230 built-in designs and the largest embroidery area Janome has offered in the RE46d hoop, at 11.3” x 18.2”. Five included hoops and compatibility with the Embroidery Link app mean there's room to customize designs well beyond what's built in.

Day-to-day workflow gets easier too, with one-touch needle plate conversion, an automatic presser foot lift, and dual color touchscreens that separate design work from in-the-moment stitch adjustments. The new Thumb Wheel adds fine needle control right where your hand already is.

This is a machine built to grow with you — sewing and embroidery capability in one system, without compromises on either side.

Blind Hem Foot

  • Blind hemming can sometimes be a little bit tricky so the blind hem foot goes some way to helping improve this technique.
  • The foot has a metal guide in the center and three grooves on the underside. During blind hemming, the fold of the fabric fits snugly against the guide in the foot for accuracy while the groove underneath help to prevent unnecessary slipping.
  • The needle swings over the metal guide creating slack in the upper tension so that the pick of the stitch is almost invisible.

  • Invisible zippers are suitable for all fabrics from fine silk jersey through to suit weight wools and tweeds.
  • The key is to get the needle as close the fastener as possible, which this foot accomplishes by slightly unrolling the zipper just before the needle. Once fitted, a well sewn invisible zipper will merely look like part of the seam.
