Congratulations on your new machine! The creative possibilities are endless. To help you with your projects, we have a list of essential items that we think make life just a little bit easier.
GLIDE ESSENTIALS BUNDLE
1.Here at Janome Junkies, we are obsessed with Glide thread. This 40 weight thread glistens on your projects while maintaining strength and elegance. We recommend starting with our beautiful Glide Essentials Bundle which include the basic colors to get you started. Glide is a versatile thread that is great for piecing, free motion quilting, embroidery, top stitching and even bag making. The bonus here is Glide is virtually lint free, made in the USA and runs smoothly on your Janome sewing machine.
CLEANING SWABS
2.We know it’ll be hard to pull you away from you machine once you get those creative ideas flowing. But with hard work comes dirty machines! Don’t you worry though. We have the best cleaning swabs that get into every nook and cranny. You’ll be sewing again in no time. We recommend you clean your machine every 4-6 hours of use.
OIL PEN AND REFILLS
3.After spending hours creating beautiful quilts and bags, your machine is going to have trouble keeping up with you! But luckily, this is an easy fix. Oiling your machine keeps it functioning the same way it did when you first took it out of the box. Now the hours of creativity can continue without a hitch. Grab the oiling pen for precision oiling and not making a mess. We recommend that you oil Janome TL sewing machines every 4-6 hours of use with 1-2 drops in designated oiling areas.
THICK THROAT PLATE
4.If you’re interested in projects other than quilts, this throat plates is a must. The thick throat plate is perfect for the sewist that works with multiple layers. This includes free-motion quilting and bag making! Using the thick throat plate gives your needle more clearance to sew with ease while also protecting your plate at the same time.
THIN THROAT PLATE AND THIN PRESSER FOOT
5.Garment makers… this is for you! The thin throat plate is perfect for those more delicate fabrics such as lace, silk or organza! Because the hole on this plate is much smaller this prevents your delicate fabrics from being sucked into the machine. And to make life even easier, this plate pairs perfectly with the thin presser foot! A light fabric needs a light touch and these parts knows how to deliver.
SMOOTH PRESSER FOOT
6.The smooth presser foot is ideal for those sticky fabrics that just don’t want to let go. Leather and vinyl are no match for this presser foot. The thick throat plate also pairs very nicely with this presser foot as they are both very capable of taking on thicker fabrics or multiple layers. This is the magic combo for bag makers!
HINGED ZIPPER FOOT
7.This is not your average zipper foot. Along with easy zipper application, this foot provides beautiful and professional topstitching close to the edge. The Hinged Zipper 3mm will give you a wonderful 1/8″ inch. The Hinged Zipper Foot 2.5mm gives you closer to 1/16th inch. You’ll get plenty of compliments on your work, trust us. It is our most popular foot for bag makers.
BOBBINS AND BOBBIN CASE
8.As we know, you can’t sew without your bobbin. They may be tiny but they are mighty. Janome has the perfect bobbin that is designed specifically for the vertical full rotary hook in JUKI semi-professional sewing machines. Stock up so you never have to stop the fun. And to make life even easier, go ahead and get the bobbin case to go with it! Having an extra bobbin case is perfect when working with different weighted threads and varying tensions.
REGULAR HINGED FOOT (1/4″)
9.The regular hinged foot is one of our favorites. A classic if we might add. This 1/4″ foot is used for piecing together patchwork with a seam allowance of 1/4″ (6.5 mm). Just align the edge of the fabric with the presser foot guide to easily sew with a seam allowance of 1/4″. It’s as simple as that!
These are just the basic starter accessories that we think you will need to start your projects. If you’re looking for more goodies, feel free to visit the mechanical accessories page and shop away! The fun has just begun.
